"Popping" Good Year Teacher Gift

For the girl's teachers this year, I wanted something fun but also something they could use.  I also didn't want to break the bank with these gifts so I tried to make it simple.

So I found these popcorn bins at the dollar spot at Target.  :)

I filled it with the following:  I read on most places that teachers want/need school supplies, I put in a few things like that for them...

Then I wrapped them up and made a tag via Photoshop for their popcorn cups.  I am totally cheesy but that's okay.  That's the fun of gift-giving, right?!

And anyone interested in using this label/tag, I have a blank tag you can download HERE!  Everyone have a great school year!!

swimming lessons.

Right when we got home from Utah, we got the girls into swimming lessons.  We've done 3 sessions total.  The first & second sessions, Emma and Kate were in the same class.  This past session, that just started the past Monday, little Kate passed up her big sister and progressed to Goldfish.  Emma opted to do Seahorse again when she found out a friend from Kindergarten was in her class.
Kate seemed to have been born to swim.  She's already swimming, with no help.  She's already made up her own type of swimming, like the robot swim, dolphin swim and mermaid swim.  She has no fear of the water. Yesterday, she jumped off the diving board without a life jacket and without a life guard below in the water to catch her.  She just jumped off and then swam back to the side without even going up to the surface.
Imagine my fear, watching from the far side, waiting for a head to pop up...and it never did.  I was about to run over there when I finally saw Kate popping her head out over by the side of the pool.  She's fearless!

Miss Emma has progressed SO MUCH this summer.  She's still very cautious in the water.  But this summer, she has gotten over her fear of jumping off the side in the deep end and going underwater.  She can even swim just fine if she's underwater.  It's the part where she is swimming above water that gets her.  She tends to keep in right leg down on the floor.  So now it's just getting her comfortable in the deep end.  She's had wonderful teachers this summer too who seem to understand her fears and help her feel safe.

When I took these, they were in the same class during the 2nd session.

Weeding.

When Joe starts weeding, the kids run out, grab some gloves and join him.  I think it's become a tradition for them and sort of a bonding experience for them.
Some of them help the whole time while other help for a few minutes then lose interest.  And that's okay.  As long as they see mom & dad working hard and helping out, it sets a good example, right?

Last trimester

It hit me yesterday that I was in the Third Trimester.  Kind of weird the contrast of emotions i'm feeling at this point.  Some days, it couldn't be going any slower.  Then there are other days that it's going by too fast.   I'm slowly working on my list of things to do before baby #4 (what?!  Seriously #4?!) comes.  I'm finishing up Luke's first year scrapbook then i'll start on the new one.  For the first 3 kids, I've done traditional scrapbooks.  But I think this time, i'll go digital.  It seems much easier, faster and cheaper.

This pregnancy has been quite different than the last 3.  The "sick" part wasn't fun but it was manageable.  It more felt like horrible digestive issues for 2 months straight.  I felt like I was eating all the time to avoid getting too hungry, which triggers the nausea.  With school and gymnastics keeping me and the kids busy, I don't think I had that much time to even dwell on feeling like crap.  That was the main thing I was worried with having 3 kids to take care of, being stuck on the couch, not being able to take care of them.  But it seemed that as long as I kept busy and moving, I felt better.

Also, I have noticed that I am carrying this baby much higher in my stomach than the other 3.  I thought I couldn't get any more stretch marks but I was wrong.  A whole new batch of them are forming above my belly button.  So because of the higher location, it makes me show much more, which then causes folks to be shocked when I tell them when i'm due.  "Oh my, you still have 3 months?!"  "Wow, are you carrying twins in there?"
So now, when asked when my due date is, I say "end of October" instead of "Nov. 1st".  I think the "Nov." part is too much for their brain to handle.

2nd trimester seemed to have come at a perfect time, with the end of school and the beginning of the summer.  I was able to travel well and stay with family during the "energetic" part of it.  It was even scary really how much energy I had in UT.  I deep cleaned and de-junked my sister's house for her after she had her lil' Isabelle.  Then every night, we would stay up until midnight or later watching Arrested Development.  Every night.  It was too fun and miss it every night.

But the time I got home, my stomach doubled in size and the poor eating habits I picked up in UT were catching up with me.  Plus the fact that I could no longer go running with my double stroller with my running buddies, I started to feel alienated....and fat.  After weeks of self-pity, wishing I could still go running and stay connected with my friends, I started getting up BEFORE (what the?!, never ever thought that would happen...especially pregnant) the kids and go speed walking for a 1/2 hour before Joe left to work.  It was been one of the many tender mercies I have received.  I don't know how I have been able to keep it up and have the energy to wake up but i've been doing it.  And i've been feeling so much better.  Instead of gaining 10 lbs every month, i've been able to only gain 1 lb so far in 3 weeks.  That is amazing.  ( for those who are new to my life, I usually gain 50+ lbs each pregnancy)  It helps relieve stress with this pregnancy, kids, family, friends and life in general.

Another type of motivation to staying active is the type of birth I am choosing to do this time around.  I'm meeting with midwives every month to prepare myself to have a natural birth in the birthing center.  There are so many emotions that run in my head when I think of what is to come.  Excitement, nervousness, fear, happiness, anxious, calm....Back and worth with this decision.  But I feel that I owe it to my body to do this, to give it a chance to run through the process on it's own without any modern meddling.  All my babies have been induced and luckily, I haven't had too many complications.  But the whole time, I felt inadequate as a woman that I can't even have a baby without intervention.  2/3, I interfered and induced early, ignoring that my body was slowly preparing for it.  Kate was actually a week late but I feel if I would have waited even just a day or two, she would have come.

A little bit after Luke was born was the first time I read about home births.  I was kind of fascinated and jealous at women who could experience these types of births.  I know a lot of pain comes that route but also a lot of joy and sense of accomplishment.  I wanted to do it.  But then I would get scared, plus being overwhelmed with 3 kids, it kind of got pushed back in my mind.  But then slowly more and more friends and people online were doing it and writing about it.  It again was brought back up.  It kind of helped me to see that lots of people do it and survive!  I could do this!

So now I feel prepared and ready to try.  I don't know really what is going to happen.  I hope that everything will run smoothly and we'll have a great experience.  But if there are complications, I am hopeful that everything will be okay.  I am blessed to have the knowledge that if something were to happen to any of my children, we will be together forever.  We will see our children again.  I am grateful for that knowledge.  I am grateful that Joe and I got married in the Temple and received those blessings, that we are all sealed together.  Death can not separate us.

Blueberry Hill

Another fun day trip we took was up to Blueberry Hill, up in Manson, WA.  This was the first time we've been there and it's a pretty awesome place.  And they have LOTS of berries, ready for the picking.  Luckily we had some extra hands.  We got 5 bucket full of berries, mainly blueberries & blackberries.

It was also VERY hot that day.  We were out there for over an hour picking.  I was dying.  My ankles were SO SWOLLEN after this day.  It took 4 days for them to go down!

Look at Emma's shirt!  I didn't even notice she was wearing one of her newer white shirts until I saw this.  Luckily, most of those came out in the wash....most of them...

A Day at Leavenworth

We had some visitors a few weeks ago.  Joe's parents and a couple of cousins came to visit for a week.  The kids had a lot of fun having attention and staying busy.  One of the days, we went to Leavenworth and explored the area.  We went to the Fish Hatchery, Enchantment Park, down town and then me, Margie and Cassidy went to see Thoroughly Modern Milly.  It was a really good play.  By the end of it, I was exhausted.  I have finally hit the huge, uncomfortable stage where any long amounts of activity takes a toll on me!

Chore Chart 2.0

I feel nesting has begun and is in full force.  During the summer, to beat the boredom and bad habits, I made this chore chart to help them start the day off right.

So let's explain how this is used.  Each morning, they have their chores that they need to do before they do anything else.
-Make their Bed
-Eat Breakfast
-Brush Teeth/Hair
-Get Dressed
-Pick up Clothes
-Read for 20 minutes
-Do their Homework Books

Once they do those7 things, then they can move on to playing or watching a show.

"RAK's" = Random Acts of Kindness.  If they do Random Acts of Kindness towards their siblings, like doing something nice for someone etc etc. then they get to color in the hearts.  They earn 5 hearts, they get a sticker for their sticker book.

These are their books.  We got them from the Dollar Tree.  You can buy packs of stickers that are randomly   placed in the book.  I remember having one of these when I was young.  I showed the girls them and they were so excited so it's now an incentive :)

"Computer Time" = when they do extra chores, they get 5 minutes of computer time.  So we circle each time they do an extra job.

Now, if they do all their daily chores and do all 5 RAK's each day, they get a quarter.  So potentially they could earn $1.75 each week.   That's a pretty decent allowance for them at their age.

So far, it's been great.  They are motivated to get their chores done and do nice things for each other and even extra chores because they love their computer time!

So I made these into 11x14 prints from Costco then laminated them.  So we just use dry erase markers.  So simple!  I also used My Memories software to make this.  They make it really easy to create digital stuff!

So what do you think?!
